About This Place

Welcome to Al Dente - Hong Kong, a delightful Italian gem nestled in the heart of Wan Chai, just a stone's throw away from the bustling Convention and Exhibition Centre. This charming restaurant combines authentic Italian cuisine with a warm and inviting atmosphere, perfect for business lunches or casual gatherings with friends.

At Al Dente, the emphasis is on fresh ingredients and generous portions, as reflected in the glowing reviews from patrons. One customer, X Chen, notably praised the succulent chicken and the perfectly cooked sirloin steak, commenting on both the quality and quantity. Such hearty servings embody the Italian ethos of sharing abundant, flavorful meals with loved ones.

The restaurant's set lunch offerings are particularly popular, coming in at approximately $150. This value for money is hard to beat in the vibrant culinary scene of Hong Kong. Jasmine Leong's experience of a three-course set lunch highlights the Caesar salad as a must-have, exquisitely balanced with just the right amount of dressing. However, dessert choices like the pineapple cake with vanilla ice cream garnered mixed reviews, showing that there’s still room for improvement in catering to diverse palates.

On a lighter note, happy hour at Al Dente offers tantalizing discounts on cocktails, making it an ideal venue for socializing. One customer enthusiastically described the fried calamari as crispy and flavorful, a perfect accompaniment to invigorating conversations over drinks. The ambiance, enhanced by oldies serenading in the background, sets a relaxed tone for any meal.

While most reviews commend the service staff for their friendly demeanor, there are mentions of occasional delays. Nevertheless, the trade-off for a cozy, enjoyable dining experience at Al Dente is well worth it. As S C noted, the weekday lunch set—encompassing a hearty Caesar salad, flavorful pasta of the day, and luscious dessert—offers not just satisfaction, but also an inviting environment that encourages a leisurely dining experience.

In conclusion, Al Dente - Hong Kong stands out as a strong contender in the city's Italian dining scene. With its focus on quality ingredients, value-for-money meals, and a pleasant atmosphere, it's a destination worth visiting for both locals and visitors alike. Whether you're in the mood for a quick bite or a leisurely lunch, Al Dente promises to deliver delightful culinary experiences that leave you wanting more.

A popular Italian restaurant near the Convention and Exhibition Centre. Chicken was good and fresh. Sirloin Steak was really good. Portions are big. Service was good. Set lunch approx $150, pretty reasonable.

Had 3 course set lunch here. Chicken was good and fresh and still hot as i was slowly finishing my appetizer. The Caesar salad was great. Right amount of dressing and not overwhelming. Dessert i had was pineapple cake with vanilla ice cream. Wasn’t that great. I wish they just had apple crumble or apple pie instead of pineapple. Not a great combination. Nice sitting area with oldies serenading while you have your lunch.

Happy hour cocktail 50% off and good. Fried Calamari is crispy and tasty. Nice place for chat with friends

Food is good for value. Good service, just that it could be a bit slow at times.

Weekday lunch set is great for the price, $142 incl. service charge for Salad (Caesar), Pasta of the Day (bacon mushroom penne with garlic and olive oil) & Dessert (hot pound cake with vanilla ice cream). My second time here, price and taste seem nearly same as last visit two years ago. I love that the portions are all sizable, hot and flavorful. Service and environment was fine for me — I came alone at 1pm, was seated quickly, food arrived fast, waitress was friendly. At this price point, I’d take this place over Outback any day, hands down.

One branch of the restaurant group was operating here. The door was facing the harbour. The tables were quite congested together. At the time of visit, most of the guests had left, so there was no problem. The quality of food was fine. Service was good. The waitress added hot water quite frequently. Speaking English was necessary. Set meals were not too expensive. The washroom was just adjacent to the restaurant, which required a key available on the check-in cabinet.
